May 14th: Marketing NY Farm Products to Bed &Breakfast Innkeepers

Date: Tuesday, May 14th

Time: 1:30 PM

Location: Critz Farms, Route 13 South, approximately 4.5 miles south of the Village of Cazenovia.

Details: Critz Farms will host the 8th and final workshop on Marketing NY Farm Products to Bed & Breakfast Innkeepers. This Central New York workshop is designed to bring B&B innkeepers together with farmers with products for sale. The project’s goal is to give innkeepers and farmers a chance to meet, get acquainted, encourage transactions, and, finally, to promote these exchanges in the future in a systematic way.

Each Bed & Breakfast owner will receive a gift basket that could include jams and jellies, processed meat and grain products, flowers and produce in-season, or any kind of product or information on agritourism or services from New York farms. As part of the basket assembly, farmers and small scale food processors “wholesale” or “gift” products to the project, and are compensated.

May 6: How to Use Beef Expected Progeny Differences

Date: Wednesday, May 6th

Time: 1 PM

Location: Drover Hill Farm, 1014 Earlville Road, Earlville, NY

Description: Producers will hear and see, firsthand, how William and Stephanie Lipsey have successfully used Expected Progeny Differences, better known as EPDs – in their Angus herd and produced the kind of functional cattle their customers want. The Lipseys have identified 2 young bulls on their farm with known EPDs. We will examine several farm scenarios – cow/calf, feeder, or backgrounder with different kinds of facilities and markets – to see if either bull could be a potential herd sire.
